Joy Division Singer Biopic Control on Film Master

The feature film Control, based on the troubled life of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, had its international premier at the Cannes Film Festival in May where it received an enthusiastic reception from filmgoers and critics. Directed by acclaimed photographer and music promo director Anton Corbijn, the film was graded by colourist Mats Holmgren on the Nucoda Film Master system at The Chimney Pot in Stockholm, Sweden. Colourist Eric Whipp grades Happy Feet on Film Master

The feature film Happy Feet was graded on the Nucoda Film Master at Animal Logic in Sydney. The first fully animated feature produced in Australia has grossed over $350 million at the box office. The movie was directed by George Miller (Babe, Babe: Pig in the City, The Witches of Eastwick, Lorenzo's Oil, and the Mad Max series) and stars Robin Williams, Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Nicole Kidman, and Hugo Weaving.

The team’s priority was to achieve a vibrant, colourful look by ensuring accurate, crisp detail in the whites and blacks of the penguins. Rather than approaching the film as a traditional animated project, Animal Logic instead treated it like live action, and the Nucoda Film Master played a major role in this process. MORE


The Chimney Pot grades feature films using Nucoda Film Master and Valhall Colour Grade systems

The Chimney Pot, a leading post production house based in Stockholm Sweden, has recently completed the grade for Swedish feature film Wallander – Stejet Efter using Nucoda Film Master. Part of the Wallander crime series, the film follows police officer Kurt Wallander, played by Swedish actor Christer Henriksson. The film was shot on 35mm and then scanned in the facility’s Arri scanner to produce 2k DPX files. Mats Holmgren, The Chimney Pot's Colourist on the project, then imported the DPX files to the Nucoda Film Master using Nucoda’s Data Conform system. Holmgren explains, “I took the EDL and conformed the clips, adding them to the timeline. Then using the Nucoda Film Master I graded the material and exported it to both our Arri Laser Digital Film Recorder and our HD SR. From the HD SR we then did a Digibeta version for DVD. MORE


VDM uses latest DVNR system with Motion Estimation technology to restore classic film version of Mozart’s Don Giovanni

Don Giovanni is arguably Mozart's greatest opera. Joseph Losey directed a very well regarded film version of the opera in 1979. Gaumont, the owners of this movie, wanted to release a home video version of the movie, and they wanted to be sure that they had a new, restored version that will work on Blu-Ray, HD-DVD and standard definition DVD. They approached VDM, one of the top facilities in France, about the restoration work. MORE

Dutch Digital Intermediate (DI) power house, Cineco is using a Nucoda Film Master to form the heart of its state-of-the-art DI facility.

“Our dedicated Nucoda room forms part of the THX audio-mixing suite,” comments Cineco CEO, Peter Limburg. “Film Master delivers real 2K including all colour corrections in real-time, which means we can run the graded DI together with a final or preliminary sound mix for approval. Directed by Peter Hyams (2010, End of Days, The Musketeer, The Relic, Timecop) and starring Ed Burns, Sir Ben Kingsley and Catherine McCormick, A Sound of Thunder is an adaptation of a short story by Ray Bradbury that sees time travelling hunters venturing back to the Jurassic age and inadvertently altering history with catastrophic affects. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Industrial Light & Magic used our AGR4 ME motion-compensated grain & noise management system to prepare the digital cinema master for Star Wars Episode III, Revenge of the Sith.

The AGR4 ME is part of Digital Vision’s DVNR product line and supports the 4:4:4 RGB format that ILM selected for this latest instalment in the Star Wars feature film series. The film was shot electronically using 4:4:4 RGB 24P cameras, and the post-production process was finished in 4:4:4 RGB. Director George Lucas considers the digital cinema version to be the archive master for the movie. The AGR4 system provided ILM/Lucasfilm with real time image processing, which they used in creating their Digital Cinema Masters. MORE

TVI Films uses Nucoda Film Master to colour correct full length features

TVI Films, Mexico’s largest post production facility, used Nucoda’s Film Master to grade and conform upcoming full-length vampire feature film, ISY. The movie was directed by Marco Barajas.

Film Master has become an invaluable tool for TVI Films since its installation in July 2004. Lenin Leon, TVI Films Post Production Director explains, "We really like Film Master because it gives us a highly flexible workflow process.  MORE


The DI Group conforms Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow with Nucoda Data Conform

The DI Group has been putting Nucoda’s Data Conform through its paces conforming Hollywood’s latest ground-breaking movie, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Shot entirely against blue-screen, the movie was directed by Kerry Conran and stars Jude Law, Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The DI Group Group was set up in January 2004 as a sister company to VFXPC, to provide studios and DI companies with a completely streamlined pipeline for film conforming and colour correction. When equipping their new facility, its founders, Marc Kolbe, Craig Mumma and Dr Raymond Yeung, chose Nucoda’s Film Master and Data Conform solutions as the centrepieces of the DI process. Within a few weeks of completing their new studio, they won the contract for the work on Sky Captain.  MORE
